The Past
Sparton Technology Corporation was established in 1972 as a prototype machine shop. In the early eighties we began our shift from a large manual machine shop to a full CNC machine shop. In 1985 we started our sheet metal division which has now grown into a sizeable and fully capable precision sheet metal shop.
At the close of the eighties, we computerized our offices with a network and Jobboss software that enabled us to track our jobs from estimating to shipping with integrated accounting modules.
In the early nineties bar coded data collection for labor tracking, fully integrated within Jobboss, gave us complete job tracking well ahead of our peers. We continued to enhance our computers and network by adding 3D CAM systems with full DNC data transmission to our CNC machines. DNC is a method of transmitting CNC programs back and forth between CNC machines and the programming office through CAT5 network cables.
At the turn of the millennium, we upgraded our software to Jobboss Windows, which is one of the leading high end integrated job tracking software systems for the machining and fabricated sheet metal industries. With this robust system we are able to customize reports to manipulate our data in countless ways. In 2001 we wrote a customized report enabling all hardware requirements (such as PEM, heli-coils, nuts,bolts...) to be issued via an on demand bar-coded requirements report. This report is coupled with a demand based procurement report and online real-time receiving of purchased hardware. This gives us the ability to detect hardware shortages during quoting and initial processing of your orders. We don't have to wait until someone in the stockroom checks the bin! Another feature with direct impact on our customer and supplier base is our ability to email quotes and purchase orders that can be viewed through Microsoft's Snap-Shot viewer
Future Plans:
We are aggressively focused on growing our business through automation and improvements to our current operations. From streamlining our inventories with bar coded issuing and tracking to establishing true partnerships with customers for Kanban programs, dock to stock, and other cost reduction methods, we are always building a better company.
For more information about starting a Kanban program with Sparton for your machined parts, fabricated sheet metal parts, or mechanical assemblies, we have provided the Sparton Guide to a successful Kanban system that will work for mechanical parts.
